2. What happens with papers accepted or invited for the 2020 Annual Meeting?
Authors of all accepted or invited papers, whether scheduled for paper sessions, roundtable sessions, poster sessions, or symposia, have options to make their accepted work accessible to others, hereinafter called “users.” AERA offers authors two products—the AERA Online Paper Repository and the AERA Interactive Presentation Gallery.
The AERA Online Paper Repository has been offered and available to paper authors since 2010.
AERA encourages authors to upload their papers in the AERA Online Paper Repository. Authors who have already uploaded their final paper through All Academic need to be sure they have indicated that they wish their paper to be located in the AERA Online Paper Repository. Authors can return to the submission portal through All Academic to do so. Authors who have not yet uploaded their final paper to All Academic should be sure to do so by June 22, 2020, 11:59 p.m. PDT, and check the box to indicate that they wish to upload their paper to the AERA Online Paper Repository. See Final 2020 Paper Submission and Upload Instructions on the AERA website.
All papers in the AERA Online Paper Repository receive a unique DOI with authentication of the date and location in the Repository. A paper in the Repository is not the final publication; it is a work in progress. After publication, authors may subsequently return to the Repository and list the final publication by title, location of publication, and DOI.
The AERA Online Paper Repository is an open access product that allows interested users to enter from around the world without fee.
Starting this year, AERA is offering a new product called the AERA Interactive Presentation Gallery. All authors of accepted or invited papers may create and locate a presentation in this gallery, using any of nine template options equivalent to PowerPoint. This contribution may take the form of a paper presentation at a paper or symposium session, a handout at a roundtable session, or a poster at a poster session.
Detailed guidance is provided to all authors seeking to place their presentations in the Gallery.
Authors can narrate each slide or the overall presentation and users will be able to listen to the narrations or read transcriptions.
Authors may schedule live chat sessions or activate a Q&A function, or both, on their own timetable to communicate with users from November 2-30, 2020. This schedule will be posted prominently to cultivate user interaction with authors interested in such communication. Thereafter, interested users may contact authors via contact information in the Gallery.
Authors will receive a unique citation for their interactive presentation located in the Gallery. Users may take as long as they wish to view the presentation and return as often as they like. The Gallery will be maintained from year to year and new content will be added each year, with continuing access to paper presentations and references to them with appropriate citations.
The AERA Interactive Presentation Gallery is also an open access product that allows users to enter from around the world without fee.
3. What is the deadline for creating presentations for the AERA Interactive Presentation Gallery?
The deadline is October 30, 2020, 11:59 p.m. PDT. The Repository and the Gallery offer continuing access to authors’ papers or presentations and provide the appropriate citations for each. These products will expand authors’ worldwide access to users and make the AERA Annual Meeting a living asset for authors.
4. What is the difference between the Online Paper Repository and the Interactive Presentation Gallery?
These are companion products—the Repository is for the final paper and the Gallery is for the presentation. For authors who decide to participate in both (strongly encouraged), these products will be linked, so that the presentation and paper can be viewed hand-in-hand and so that the reach of authors’ work is wider than if either product were used alone. In the Gallery, authors will be able to schedule chats or respond to Q&A, or both.
5. What will authors of papers that were scheduled for presentation at the 2020 Meeting receive?
All authors will receive an authenticated citation for accepted papers, indicating that their paper was accepted for a meeting which was subsequently cancelled.
Authors who locate their paper in the AERA Online Paper Repository will have an authenticated citation for their paper in the Repository with date and time stamped and an assigned DOI. These papers are considered working papers in progress and NOT the final publication. Authors are encouraged to further develop their work and seek publication.
Authors who create a presentation for their 2020 Annual Meeting paper in the AERA Interactive Presentation Gallery will also have a unique citation for their presentation in the Gallery and will have the capacity to narrate their presentation and connect to interested users through chat and Q&A functions.
Status of Papers Scheduled for Cancelled 2020 AERA Annual Meeting and Submission to Other Association Meetings
AERA is offering the Gallery and Repository options and authenticated citations for 2020 without fee to authors and with open access to users. Although the place-based 2020 Annual Meeting was cancelled, the AERA Interactive Presentation Gallery and the AERA Online Paper Repository provide authenticated opportunities for presentations and access to papers. Papers accepted for the 2020 Annual Meeting may not be submitted in response to the 2021 Call for Submissions, irrespective of whether authors decide to participate in the Gallery or the Repository. Authors will still have a citation to an accepted paper for the cancelled meeting even if they do not use these AERA products.
Authors considering submissions to meetings of other associations should check with those associations as to their policies for receiving papers accepted and scheduled for the AERA cancelled meeting. Authors may wish to indicate whether their papers or presentations are otherwise available through the AERA Online Paper Repository or the AERA Interactive Presentation Gallery. Decisions regarding eligibility rest with the other associations and not with AERA.
