Update from AERA on the 2020 Annual Meeting
February 26, 2020
Dear AERA Members, 2020 Annual Meeting Attendees, and Other Friends:
We look forward to welcoming you to the 2020 Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA, April 17–21, for a highly engaging and rewarding convening of education researchers, practitioners, and policy leaders. AERA’s leadership, volunteers, and staff are hard at work putting the finishing touches on the Annual Meeting schedule and programs, and look forward to a successful conference.
Many of you may have heard that the mayor of San Francisco, out of an abundance of caution, has issued a local emergency order to proactively prepare for the possible arrival of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the city. The order will help the city organize resources, accelerate planning, and coordinate offices should the need arise. As noted by the City of San Francisco website, there are zero confirmed cases of COVID-19 in San Francisco, no coronavirus circulating in the city, and no recommendations to cancel activities.
At this juncture, there appears to be no imminent risk of becoming infected by virtue of being in San Francisco. AERA will continue to monitor statements from the Mayor’s Office in San Francisco, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the World Health Organization regarding COVID-19 and follow guidelines from these agencies and the local health departments. We will inform Annual Meeting registrants if changes happen.
Cordially,
